Major Crash officers have charged a man with an additional 21 charges as a result of their investigation into a serious traffic crash that occurred in Wilson on Saturday, 29 December 2018.
It is alleged the man was the driver of a stolen white Toyota Hilux utility that struck a Hyundai van stopped at a red light at the intersection of Leach Highway and Bungaree Road. The Hyundai then struck the rear of a semi-trailer being towed by a Mercedes truck and became wedged under the trailer.
The eight occupants of the Hyundai (6 adults and 2 children), received serious injuries. Sadly one of those injured, a five-year-old child, has since died from injuries received in the crash.
The 34-year-old man has been further charged with:-
• Five counts of Dangerous Driving Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm with Circumstances of Aggravation;
• Four counts of Driver Fail to Report Incident Occasioning Death or Grievous Bodily Harm;
• Four counts of Driver Failed to Ensure Assistance Received after Incident Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm;
• One count of Dangerous Driving Occasioning Death with Circumstances of Aggravation;
• One count of Dangerous Driving Occasioning Bodily Harm with Circumstances of Aggravation;
• One count of Driver Fail to Report Incident Occasioning Bodily Harm;
• One count of Driver Failed to Ensure Assistance Received after Incident Occasioning Bodily Harm;
• One count of Stealing Motor Vehicle;
• Two counts of Stealing; and
• One count of No Authority to Drive.
He is next due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on 21 February 2019.
