Sophia Antipolis, 12 June 2024: The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) is delighted to announce its future congress destinations. The year 2025 brings the world's largest cardiovascular event to Madrid, followed by Munich in 2026, and Milan, in 2027. This August, ESC Congress will be organised in London.

"At the ESC our diversity is our strength, so the strategy around congresses consists of having the widest possible rotation among our member countries. Candidate cities are evaluated based on 12 tangible criteria, going from venue-related assets to hotel capacities, to city infrastructure including transport matters such as international accessibility, or ground transportation facilities. In parallel, we look at sustainability measures, local authority involvement, the fiscal regime, and freedom of movement," Nata Nambatingué, the Congress & Event Director of the European Society of Cardiology said.

The annual event gathers over 30,000 members of the global cardiovascular community, who share the latest discoveries in the field, delve into clinical trial results, and learn about the ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines. The congress also offers an ideal opportunity to network and build new relationships. Of the three destinations, Madrid and Milan are new to ESC Congress.

"Two new destinations in a period of three years is not that common, and we are happy to bring novel experiences to our delegates, who are coming from every corner of the world.  Regarding Madrid, as a Spanish-speaking country, we are hopeful this will have a positive effect on the level of participation from South and Central America," Nata Nambatingué said.

Madrid has a proven track record in delivering world-class congresses, such as COP25 and the European Society of Medical Oncology congress, and Milan is set to host the Winter Olympics in 2026. Munich has hosted four ESC Congresses since 2004.

"We know these cities will provide exceptional experiences for our global community of cardiovascular healthcare professionals." Nata Nambatingué concluded.
