- New round of bright, young leaders selected to join WA Student Council
- Council provides public school students with an opportunity to shape future of public education in Western Australia
Education Minister Dr Tony Buti has announced the latest team of exceptional students to share their voices on the WA Student Council.
Eleven passionate students will take over from departing members to represent the interests of their peers and help inform education policy.
After an extensive selection process, members were chosen from across the State's eight education regions for their outstanding leadership, dedication, academic and cultural diversity, and passion for making a positive impact within their school communities.
Over the past year, the current student councillors have played a pivotal role in informing the Department of Education on a broad range of topics, including artificial intelligence, student access to wellbeing officers and chaplains for mental health support, and the Pathways to Post-School Success Review.
They also contributed their perspectives to important Department initiatives, such as the Quality Teaching Strategy, and were invited to speak and participate at several conferences and panel discussions representing the voices and experiences of students across the State.
The inaugural council commenced in September 2022 and each year it is made up of Year 10 and 11 public school students.
