As the Future Made in Australia legislation is introduced to parliament, the Australian Conservation Foundation's lead exports campaigner Elizabeth Sullivan said:
"In a rapidly changing global energy landscape, the Future Made in Australia legislation is shaping up to provide the strong foundation needed to establish world-leading renewable manufacturing and export industries.
"These are the industries that will propel our future - not polluting coal and gas, or non-solutions like nuclear energy or carbon capture and storage, which come with huge new risks and keep our economy burning coal and gas for longer.
"Carbon capture and gas should have no access to Future Made in Australia funds.
"Future Made in Australia sets out the sort of framework necessary for workers to secure jobs in industries that are powered by renewable energy, instead of climate-wrecking fossil fuels.
"With strategic implementation, backed by sufficient public investment, this package should unlock the billions of dollars of private investment needed to replace Australia's fossil fuel exports with responsibly produced clean technologies and products.
"Places like Gladstone in central Queensland will likely be among the first to benefit from new jobs and industries as we clean up our economy.
"Industries like green metals and renewable-powered manufacturing present a once-in-a-generation opportunity to revitalise Australia's economy.
"As this bill works its way through parliament, ACF encourages parliamentarians from both houses to make sure it protects nature and leaves no room for fossil fuel expansion."
ACF has been calling for a coordinated renewable manufacturing and exports plan since 2021.
Analysis by ACF, WWF, the ACTU and the Business Council of Australia showed a program like this could deliver close to 400,000 jobs and inject more than $300bn into the economy.
