G20 Finance Track Set for Intense Rio Debates Next Week

From July 22 to 26, the G20 Brasil capital will host finance leaders for a series of crucial discussions. As well as debates on the global economy, the climate crisis, foreign debt and multilateral development bank reform, the unprecedented meeting will bring together finance representatives from member countries and civil society organizations.

An intense week in the capital of G20 Brasil. From July 22 to 26, the city of Rio de Janeiro will host deputy ministers, finance ministers, vice-presidents and central bank presidents from the world's largest economies for crucial Finance Track discussions ahead of the Leaders' Summit to be held in November.

In the expectation of important consensus, the unprecedented meeting between representatives of 13 engagement groups that are part of the G20 Social is going to present public policy proposals to the finance representatives of the member countries. The document was prepared by these groups and fulfills an innovative idea by the Brazilian presidency: to broaden social participation in debates between the world's largest economies.

The agenda for the ministers and deputy ministers of the Track also includes discussions concerning the global economy, financing mechanisms for measures to combat the climate crisis and protect tropical forests, external debt and reform of multilateral development banks (MDBs). There will also be discussions on cooperation to create an international tax system.

Sustainable finance

The week will also feature a side event organized by the United Arab Emirates delegation, which will discuss the agreements of COP 28 (United Nations Climate Change Conference), held in the UAE last year, and the priorities of G20 Brasil in the field of sustainable finance.
