Hobart and Auckland are excited to welcome back direct international flights between the two cities, resuming on Sunday, 27 October.

This marks the return of a key international route and, over the next five months, 24,000 seats will be available for both inbound and outbound travellers between Hobart and Auckland.

Air New Zealand will operate the flights three times per week on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

The return of these flights is an important step for both tourism and business, with Hobart's tourism sector worth $617m and almost 4000 direct jobs to the city.

With the peak summer season approaching, the return of these flights is set to boost both visitor numbers and the local economy.

Quotes to be attributed to Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds:

"The resumption of direct flights between Hobart and Auckland strengthens our city's connectivity with the world.

"We are particularly excited about the opportunity for North American visitors to fly via Auckland and avoid the long queues at mainland hubs.

"Last season, we saw around 10% of inbound visitors come from North America, and we expect similar interest this time around."

Quotes to be attributed to Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown:

"Kia ora Tassie! It's great to have the direct air link with Hobart back in place.

"Many New Zealanders enjoyed the chance to visit Tasmania without needing to stop in Melbourne or Sydney on the way, so the return of this service is very welcome.

"We also look forward to again welcoming Tasmanians to visit and enjoy Aotearoa New Zealand.

"Auckland is a vibrant Pacific city in Asia, with a diverse population of 1.7 million.

"There is so much to see and do here and this direct flight is the perfect gateway for Tasmanians wanting to explore wider New Zealand, too."
