Darwin City Council

City of Darwin's annual Geektacular event will be a celebration of geek culture when it returns to the Casuarina Library on Saturday 18 January 2025.

Created by fans, for fans, including cosplayers, gamers, and artists, Geektacular is a kaleidoscope of creativity and imagination for young people aged 15 to 25 years old.

City of Darwin Acting Chief Executive Officer, Matt Grassmayr, said Geektacular was a highlight of the school holiday program.

"Geektacular is created by young people for young people, and we are incredibly proud of the emerging producer team who have designed a creative, fun and inclusive event," Mr Grassmayr said.

"Geektacular is a great example of young people contributing to the creative and cultural life of our city.

"Geektacular offers a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and celebrate everything that makes geek culture so fun.

"Geektacular aims to connect young people with our libraries, which are a fantastic free community resource that can be enjoyed by people of any age," Mr Grassmayr said.

This year's event features a jam-packed program, including a minimarket showcasing local young creatives, a cosplay competition celebrating the most creative and colourful costumes, a board games arena and Dungeons and Dragons sessions.

Geektacular will also feature an art exhibition from talented young artists, plenty of gaming options, karaoke sessions and cooking workshops.

The popular 'Lo-fi Lounge' will be available again for people who are sensory sensitive, with quiet activities and headphones offering a choice of fantasy soundtracks, nature sounds and lo-fi beats.
