- 16 new social homes dwellings for Geraldton by mid-2025
- One and two-bedroom homes built to gold Livable Homes standard
- Part of Cook Labor Government's record $4.5 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures
The Cook Labor Government will deliver 16 new modular tiny homes for social housing in Geraldton, providing a major boost to affordable housing in the Mid West.
The 16 new homes are being built in the Geraldton suburb of Wandina to gold Livable Homes standard and are expected to be completed and ready to be offered to applicants from the by mid-2025.
The 16 modular homes are currently under construction in Summit Projects yard prior to being transported to the Mid West for completion and connection to services.
These modular tiny homes follow the Cook Labor Government's delivery of four tiny homes for social housing in Spearwood and four tiny homes for social housing in Northam.
Prefabrication is undertaken over approximately 12 weeks and the design and construction method means faster construction time, less time on site, waste reduction, design adaptability and a small on-site building footprint that allows for more extensive landscaping.
This innovative approach to social housing offers the opportunity for an increased number of single bedroom dwellings, within a shorter timeframe.
As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:
"Our Government continues to do everything it can to bolster the supply of housing across Western Australia - particularly in regional WA.
"These 16 new modular homes will provide affordable housing to seniors in Geraldton and are being delivered under our Government's modular build program - one of the key reforms introduced by the Cook Labor Government to accelerate the delivery of housing across the State.
"Along with construction of the Geraldton Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation and expansion of the successful supportive landlord model in Geraldton, we're deeply committed to boosting housing supply and supporting the most vulnerable members of the Geraldton community.
"Since the Government's record $4.5 billion investment in social housing and homelessness measures, we've added more than 2,700 social homes, with more than 1,000 social homes currently under contract or construction throughout Western Australia."
As stated by Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:
"This is a fantastic outcome for our local community, with 16 new homes to provide safe, affordable and secure housing to seniors in Geraldton.
"We're seeing a huge body of work being undertaken by the Cook Government - with the addition of these 16 new homes.
"I'll continue to advocate for more affordable housing across Geraldton, as the Cook Labor Government continues to deliver our $4.5 billion investments into housing and homelessness - particularly in Geraldton."
