- $166 million Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment well underway with the upper- floor slab concrete pour underway
- Cook Government prioritises local jobs, with seven Mid West businesses securing more than $5 million in subcontracts
- Redevelopment to deliver a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for the Mid West
Main works on the $166 million Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment are well underway with the site now boasting an impressive multi-level structure.
Works are currently focused on the concrete slab pours including the upper-floor and roof-suspended slabs, as well as stairways and lift core. Next steps include the ground-level slab being extended through to the existing hospital and the commencement of first-floor columns.
The redevelopment is also putting local jobs front and centre, with the Cook Government securing contracts for local contractors and trades worth more than $5 million.
Seven Mid West businesses are supporting the redevelopment, including HTD Surveyors, Abrolhos Steel, Protect Security, Sun City Plumbers who are delivering inground services, and Crothers Construction who are delivering demolition services and earthworks.
Importantly, the project is also creating opportunities for local Aboriginal suppliers, with Oaks Civil Construction engaged to deliver traffic management and site cleaning services through Ronan Commercial Cleaning.
Once complete, the redeveloped Geraldton Health Campus will feature an expanded emergency department, a new intensive care unit and high dependency unit, as well as an integrated mental health service comprising an adult mental health inpatient unit and a mental health short-stay unit.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"This redevelopment is the single-largest investment in the Geraldton Health Campus, delivering a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for the people of Geraldton and the Mid West.
"It's fantastic to see the significant progress that has been made since I last toured this site.
"This is a significant project for the region, and we've worked hard to ensure the community plays a key role in its delivery through engagement with local corporations, committees and focus groups.
"The project is also creating jobs for local contractors and tradies, with Mid West businesses successfully engaged on subcontracts worth more than $5 million."
As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"From day one, this project has been about putting Geraldton and the people of the Mid West region first.
"It's incredibly important that local people are very much hands-on with this project as this is an investment not only in regional healthcare but an opportunity to support Mid West businesses.
"The Cook Government has made it a priority to ensure Aboriginal involvement on the project, with two local Aboriginal companies already secured for the delivery of key services."
As stated by Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:
"In just a few short months, we've seen the space transformed and you get a real sense now of how expansive the redevelopment of Geraldton Health Campus will be.
"I'm excited to see this important project moving forward and pleased to see that local people, and local jobs are once again front and centre."
