- Cook Labor Government has endorsed $4.4 million in funding to progress Stage 2 of Batavia Coast Marina (BCM2), known as 'Station Square'
- Along with existing Regional Development Assistance Program (RDAP) funding, works will commence on roads, services, and residential and commercial lots to activate the city centre
The Cook Labor Government has today provided $4.4 million to commence the construction of Stage 2 of the Geraldton Batavia Coast Marina project, to be known as 'Station Square'.
Located adjacent to the heritage-listed Geraldton Railway Station, Station Square is strategically positioned for high-density mixed-use, commercial, and residential development, strengthening its role as a key north-south connection in the city centre.
To support the next stage of development, the Cook Government has committed $4.4 million, complementing existing funding from the Regional Development Assistance Program (RDAP).
These funds will enable the first phase of civil works, which includes the construction of Monument Promenade and Chambers Way - delivering roads, drainage, footpaths, street lighting, landscaping, and irrigation.
In addition to the new streetscape, Station Square will feature one mixed-use lot, one grouped dwelling lot, and fifteen cottage-style residential lots, bringing a range of commercial and residential opportunities to Geraldton's city centre importantly providing up to 40 new homes in Geraldton, subject to design.
As stated by Lands and Housing Minister John Carey:
"The Cook Labor Government is providing $4.4 million to commence Stage 2 of the Batavia Coast Marina, to build on the success of Stage 1, which delivered the Museum of Geraldton site, mixed-use commercial and residential lots, and tourism accommodation.
"Station Square is an important project that will enhance Geraldton's city centre by delivering high-quality public spaces, commercial opportunities, and providing more opportunities to boost housing supply in Geraldton.
"This project will breathe new life into Geraldton's CBD, providing better connections, new business opportunities, and a revitalised urban experience for locals and visitors alike."
As stated by Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:
"I am so proud to be part of the Cook Labor Government and this significant announcement is the next major step forward in unlocking the potential of the prime city centre site at the Geraldton Batavia Marina.
"Once completed, Station Square will connect the CBD to the Marina and Northgate Shopping Centre, as well as provide an east-west link between the Museum of Geraldton and the HMAS Sydney II Memorial site, supporting local businesses and activating the precinct.
"The project is being delivered in collaboration with the Batavia Coast Marina Steering Committee, which includes DevelopmentWA, the Mid West Development Commission, the City of Greater Geraldton, and Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation."
