The City of Ryde is furthering its commitment to a Net Zero Emissions target of 2040 by encouraging businesses and residents to purchase 100% accredited GreenPower from their electricity retailers.
The government accredited GreenPower program enables Australian households and businesses to choose renewable energy to meet up to 100% of their electricity needs by requesting a renewable energy supply from their retailer.
Most Australian electricity companies offer certified GreenPower - these plans are available for everyone even if you are renting or living in an apartment.
It's a superior, more environmentally friendly option to a carbon neutral plan, in which your energy provider calculates the emissions associated with your household energy use and purchases corresponding carbon offsets, often from climate action projects in distant countries.
The City of Ryde reached its 100% renewable energy target in June 2022 - eight years ahead of schedule - with energy being supplied by the Moree, Hillston and Nevertire Solar Farms in NSW.
Council has committed to achieving a Net Zero Emissions target of 2035 (or sooner) for council operational emissions and 2040 (or sooner) for community emissions.
