NT Government

The Lawler Labor Government is ensuring students in Central Australia are work ready and on a pathway to employment through Vocational Education and Training (VET).

Currently, 425 students in the Red Centre and surrounding areas are undertaking a VET course, earning them qualifications in areas such as construction, hospitality and agriculture, growing our skilled workforce, supporting local businesses and opening doors to new working opportunities.

Located 130 kilometres west of Alice Springs the Lawler Labor Governments first on-country training hub has been a major success.

Opened in February 2024, the Tjuwanpa Outstation Resource Centre has already facilitated 41 remote students to undertake VET courses ranging from construction to tourism and community services.

Students from Centralian Senior College are accelerating their career pathways into the automotive industry through the Territory Labor Government's partnership with Repco.

The program, VROOM, provides Vocational Education Training focusing on car servicing and repair, and is facilitated on-site at Centralian Senior College's school workshop with industry leaders from Repco.

Following this programs major popularity and success in Alice Springs, Repco is strongly considering expanding the model further across the Territory and interstate.

In 2023, 166 students in the Central Region earned VET qualifications, however following major investment in Vocational Education and Training by the Lawler Labor Government and opening a landmark on-country training centre that number is expected to increase in 2024 by over 250 students.

Integrating more students into VET courses is a priority for the Lawler Labor Government, allowing especially remote children to explore their passion and aptitude in practice, real-world applications leading to more students in the workforce.
