The Allan Labor Government is cutting congestion in Werribee, with works set to ramp up on the Ison Road Extension.
Premier Jacinta Allan and Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams today visited Werribee to announce that Decmil has been awarded the contract to build the 1.3-kilometre, four lane road between the Ison Road Overpass and the Geelong Road Princes freeway interchange.
The Ison Road Extension is set to be completed next year and will eventually cater for more than 29,000 daily journeys to help meet Wyndham West's growing transport needs.
Together, the Ison Road Extension and Overpass will form the new link between Ison Road and the Princes Freeway at Werribee.
These upgrades will also allow the nearby dangerous and congested level crossing at Galvin Road in Werribee to be closed to traffic once the new connection opens.
The link will also include walking and cycling paths to Geelong Road, boosting local active transport.
Crews have already clocked nearly 150,000 hours building the Ison Road Overpass and completed the road deck late last year. Workers will finish the bridge build and prepare the site for construction on the Ison Road Extension.
The Ison Road Extension is expected to create more than 220 direct and up to 400 indirect jobs during its construction phase.
The $80 million project is jointly funded through the Victorian Government and council, with $60 million from the Victorian Government's Growth Area Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC) fund.
The Labor Government invests in the west. The Ison Road Overpass and Extension and the $333.5 million Werribee Main Road - Princes Freeway Interchange Upgrade and the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade are two upgrades that will create 1,624 jobs.
This is in addition to the West Gate Tunnel Project, the Western Roads Upgrade and the Melton Line Upgrade - part of a strong record of road and rail infrastructure investment.
These works all build on more than half a billion dollars in upgrades for roads in Werribee and Wyndham Vale.
As stated by Premier Jacinta Allan
"We are proudly delivering the missing link in Werribee - cutting congestion and getting families home safer and sooner. This vital link will be open to traffic in 2026, changing the way families Melbourne's west can get around."
As stated by Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams
"Locals have a choice between a united Labor Government who will keep delivering the infrastructure the community deserves, or the Coalition Cuts Squad who will eliminate the frontline services, cheaper energy and infrastructure projects local families rely on."
