For immediate release.
The ongoing connectivity issues affecting Gilgandra and its residents have become increasingly evident and disruptive.
Initial discussions between Council, local Member Mark Coulton, and Telstra representatives have commenced and are continuing. Council remains committed to supporting the delivery of this essential service, including the push to fast-track the installation of a new mobile tower.
Mayor Doug Batten says,
"Reliable connectivity is vital for our community's growth and everyday life. It's not just about convenience, it impacts our local economy, education, and safety in times of emergencies. We're committed to working with all stakeholders on behalf of our community to ensure Gilgandra gets the services it deserves as quickly as possible."
At this time, Council confirms that no Development Application (DA) has been lodged for the installation of a new mobile tower, however, preliminary discussions have taken place.
Further, Mayor Doug Batten has expressed Council's full support for the community's proactive efforts to improve connectivity in the region.
"The ongoing connectivity issues has prompted the community to take action. Local residents are now lobbying Telstra to address these concerns and restore critical access to reliable mobile and internet services."
Updates will be provided to the community as we progress discussions with Telstra and Government.
