As the Gladstone Wharf is an essential facility for both our residents and visitors, Kempsey Shire Council has an update regarding its status.
Recently, Council Staff and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) Maritime conducted an inspection of the wharf. As a result of ongoing wet weather, the security fencing has been repeatedly damaged. We are pleased to announce that Council staff will be re-installing the fencing to ensure the safety of all users of the wharf.
Additionally, TfNSW Maritime has determined that a maritime hazard marker is currently not required at the site. However, Council will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate measures if needed.
We would also like to take this opportunity to update you on the replacement of both the Gladstone and Smithtown Wharves. We have put out a request for tender and we hope to award the contract prior to the end of the financial year. This will allow us to commence construction early in the 2023-2024 financial year.
We want to assure the community that the wharves will be replaced "like for like" using modern composite materials that perform better in the marine environment. This will ensure the longevity and safety of the wharves for years to come.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this process and we will continue to keep you updated on any developments. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
