Cheers of joy and laughter are being heard once again at the brand new and improved Glenhaven Reserve playground.
The crocodile themed play area, which was selected by residents, was officially opened by the Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne and the Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser MP on Thursday, December 9.
"This is a fantastic outcome that has been achieved through both the Local and Federal Governments working together to provide a wonderful new playground that can be enjoyed by families, friends and residents alike," Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said.
"I would like to thank Mr Leeser for his support on this project, as well as residents who provided feedback and shared some great ideas on how we could breathe new life into this much-loved play space.
"These ideas have now blossomed into this amazing new facility that I know will be enjoyed by many for years to come," Mayor Byrne added.
Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser MP said he is delighted to see this project open for business.
"The playground is going to be a wonderful place for children to play in Glenhaven. It's great to see so many people out and about after what has been a challenging 18 months for everybody. I am pleased the Federal Government has been able to support The Hills Shire Council through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program to create this playground for the community," Mr Leeser said
In June, Council ran a public consultation for residents to select their new playground at the local Reserve. Over the course of the consultation period, more than 500 submissions were received. Council reviewed those submissions and made further amendments to the design, including more rubber soft fall, as well as the addition of two picnic settings and rainbow chimes.
The new facility also includes:
- A crocodile themed multi-play area;
- Double bay swings with pod;
- A balance beam;
- An inclusive trampoline;
- A snake themed springer; and
- A carousel.
This playground upgrade was made possible through $105,000 funding from the Australian Government through the LRCI Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
