A sod turning ceremony has marked the official start of a $12 million Gnangara Road Duplication project.
Due for completion in June 2026, the upgrade will convert a 1,250m section of Gnangara Road between Henley Brook Avenue and Pinaster Parade to a dual carriageway – boosting traffic flow and safety for road users.
The project will link previously-duplicated segments to the east and west.
Supported by federal grant funding of $8.75 million, the project includes shared path, drainage and street lighting upgrades.
It is one of the few remaining unduplicated sections of Gnangara Road with the City having recently completed the section between Henley Brook Avenue and Egerton Drive in 2022/23, as well as the Gnangara/Henley Brook Avenue roundabout in 2023/24.
Tania Lawrence MP, Member for Hasluck, said the upgrade will not only provide improved connectivity and traffic flow but will also reduce travel times for commuters and response times for emergency services.
"This is a wonderful development for regular road users and everyone iinn Henley Brook, Aveley and Ellenbrook. Business owners will also see measurable benefits from the upgrade, with reduced journey times along a greater length of Gnangara Road," she said.
Tanya Richardson, City of Swan Mayor, said the duplication underlines the importance of continued investment in the City of Swan's road network.
"We're enjoying significant increases in urban development in the City, with a focus on road projects that make life easier for commuters," she said.
"These projects require continued investment in connectivity to sustain growth, and this upgrade is a great reminder of the need to keep our transport infrastructure aligned with population increases and business growth."
