Gold Coast residents are being urged to get ready for Tropical Cyclone Alfred which is expected to have significant impacts on the Gold Coast in the coming days with heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Acting Mayor Donna Gates said as at 4am on Monday, TC Alfred was about 410km east northeast of Maroochydore and 465km northeast of Brisbane tracking southeast, however, it is expected to turn back towards the Queensland coastline tomorrow.
"Now is the time for Gold Coasters to make sure your family and your home is prepared for the coming severe weather," Acting Mayor Gates said.
"Tropical Cyclone Alfred is unpredictable and the City continues to monitor its movements to ensure the community is prepared."
How to prepare
- Clear out your gutters and any debris from your property
- Make sure any outdoor furniture is moved indoors or safely secured
- If you live in a high-rise, it is important to remove or secure anything on your balcony
- Have your emergency and evacuation plan ready
