A new high speed patrol boat is currently under construction for Gold Coast Water Police.
The purpose-built, 12 metre monohull patrol boat, will enhance operational capability.
The new vessel will complement two rigid-hull inflatable boats and two jet skis currently utilised by police on the Gold Coast.
Gold Coast Water Police also have two specially modified four-wheel drive vehicles at their disposal.
Police Minister Mark Ryan said the government was investing in the resources police need to support community safety.
"In recent times I have been aboard a number of the new-generation vessels Queensland Water Police are using for their important work.
"These vessels are cutting edge, very fast, and very manoeuvrable.
"And I have no doubt the vessel currently under construction for Water Police on the Gold Coast will be every bit as impressive.
"The new capability will support the great work Water Police on the Gold Coast do in partnership with other agencies like Maritime Safety Queensland, Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Queensland Volunteer Marine Rescue, Australian Volunteer Coast Guard and Australian Maritime Border Command," the Minister said.
Member for Gaven, Meaghan Scanlon, said safety on the Gold Coast's waterways was of paramount importance.
"It's great to see Gold Coast Water Police getting the support and investments they need to keep the community safe.
"The Water Police vessels being rolled out across Queensland are world class.
"I know that Water Police are very closely involved in the design of these vessels so that they get exactly the capabilities they need when they're out on the water.
"This vessel under construction will be a great new asset for community safety on the Gold Coast," Ms Scanlon said.
