Goldfields Family Centre in Maryborough is holding an open night on Wednesday 13 November from 5pm to 7pm for those interested in pursuing a career in Early Childhood Education.

Meet with industry experts, current staff and training organisations at the Centre to discuss the options of flexible and rewarding work nurturing our local children to school age.

Central Goldfields Shire Interim CEO Sally Jones said providing opportunities for early years learning is an important role for Council.

"We have a growing demand for staff in the early learning sector and opportunities like the open night are a terrific way to explore the pathways available into a really worthwhile career.

"Our educators do fantastic work giving our youngest community members their best start in life, with children socialising and learning so they're well prepared to start school.

"Our service also helps families balance life and work, allowing parents to return to work locally while confident their youngsters are safe and thriving at Goldfields Family Centre.

Central Goldfields Shire Manager Children and Families and Executive Officer Go Goldfields, Carolyn Bartholomeusz said working with children in early learning offers many rewards.

"When working at Goldfields Family Centre you make a real impact in young people's lives. It's an absolute joy supporting children to grow and learn, plus there are so many different roles and settings you become a part of. No two days are the same working with little people - they never cease to surprise you!

"Whether you're qualified and have worked in the sector before, considering a return to work now your own children are starting school, or looking for an exciting career where you can earn while you learn, I'd strongly encourage you to come along and meet everyone at our open night.

"We highly value diversity in our team and children benefit from a variety of educators of different ages and gender."

Trainee Early Childhood Educator Hayley Brame said starting her course was life changing.

"I can't believe how much I love coming to work. At times it's incredibly busy but there are so many great moments through the day. I'd strongly encourage school leavers who love working with children to consider the possibilities and come along to the evening."

"I'm really going to miss my little ones over the holidays!"

In attendance on the night are current educators from the Centre, representatives from Chisholm Institute and other training organisations, Go Goldfields and the Department of Education.

The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education is a twelve-month course that can be completed as you work at the Centre.

In March 2024 Central Goldfields Shire Council adopted a comprehensive Child Safe Policy, an organisation-wide governance for the protection and standards of care for young people.

Goldfields Family Centre is located at 100 Napier Street, Maryborough.
