The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, with assistance from Orana Rural Fire Service, is conducting a hazard reduction burn in Goonoo State Conservation Area near Dubbo commencing 22 May, weather permitting.
The hazard reduction will cover more than 700 hectares of Goonoo State Conservation Area and is expected to be completed by 24 May.
Drivers on the Mendooran Road should be wary of potential smoke impacts and look out for traffic controllers and firefighters on the road.
The objective of this operation is to protect critical habitat for the vulnerable glossy black cockatoos which live in Goonoo.
Park trails close to the burn are closed. Intending visitors to Goonoo should check park alerts on the National Parks and Wildlife Service website.
