Government Delivers First Aged Care Digital Plan

Department of Health

The Albanese Government has today released its first Aged Care Data and Digital Strategy.

The strategy sets out the vision for embracing innovation and harnessing the power of data and digital technologies to improve the care and wellbeing of older people in Australia.

The focus is on preserving choice and leveraging technology to make in person and face-to-face services more accessible and efficient.

Aged care workers and service providers will benefit from improved use of aged care data and a reduction in administrative burden, increasing the time workers can spend on direct, person-centred, care for older people.

As well as short-term solutions, the strategy looks to build critical data and digital foundations, such as AI frameworks for aged care and put in place appropriate measures to protect and secure privacy.

A detailed action plan has also been published to provide further information on how the Strategy will be implemented. This plan will be updated regularly with progress reporting and any new data and digital improvement activities.

The Albanese Government will continue to work alongside state and territory health departments and other Commonwealth agencies to better connect aged care with health and other care sectors, such as disability support and veterans' care.

Quotes attributed to Minister for Aged Care, Anika Wells:

"Digital reform is key to delivering the Albanese Government's aged care agenda.

"With older people at its centre, the Digital Strategy aims to increase digital health literacy of older people, giving them greater choice and independence as they age.

"Designing the best aged care system for older people in Australia means embracing innovation and the technologies available so we can continue to restore dignity to aged care."
