Grant Boosts Deniliquin Knowledge Centre

NSW Gov

Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre in Deniliquin has received a $220,000 grant from Aboriginal Affairs NSW to help upgrade a recently purchased building to meet the need of the organisation and its community.

"The project will upgrade the current infrastructure to provide additional community engagement spaces," said David Crew, Manager of Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre.

"The existing building will have an additional room added to the space, to increase the floorspace and allow for more defined and accessible work and community spaces."

The renovation will provide a location for community workshops and a much-needed new space with computers for young people to be supported in their schooling and training.

"The multimedia space will support language and culture workshops, to deliver and grow our language and cultural activities across our community," said David.

The grant will contribute to Closing the Gap by providing a culturally safe place for Aboriginal young people to transition to work, learn and be supported to find their pathway to sustained employment opportunities.

"The space will also be set up to allow independent access to support community members undertaking online studies, and build their engagements with language, arts and culture."

This project will be funded by a $220,000 Community and Place Grant from Aboriginal Affairs NSW.
