Cessnock City Council is set to complete upgrades to Wollombi Village, after successfully securing $754,000 in the latest round of grant funding from NSW Governments Towards Zero Safer Roads Program.
The Towards Zero Safer Roads Program aims to deliver sustainable and long-term reductions in road trauma across the NSW road network by addressing high risk locations.
The improvements including the installation of pathway connections, kerb extensions and formalised car parking will ensure safe access for pedestrians in this busy area.
Cessnock City Mayor Daniel Watton said these upgrades are critical to ensure our pedestrians have safe access in a high activity area.
"Securing this grant is a significant step forward for Wollombi Village that will enhance safety for all road users," said Clr Watton.
"We are committed to creating a safer environment, and these improvements will provide better pathways for pedestrians and help reduce road trauma in our community. "
The project will be funded with an additional $301,600 from Cessnock City Council.
Works will begin February 2025 and are expected to be completed by November 2025.
