I send my sincere condolences to the family of longtime Country Liberal Party parliamentarian, Grant Tambling AM, who has passed away, aged 81.
Grant was the MLA for Fannie Bay in the first fully elected Northern Territory Legislative Assembly between 1974 and 1977.
He then represented the Northern Territory in Canberra, first as a Member of the House of Representatives between 1980 and 1983, and then as a Senator between 1987 and 2001.
Prior to representing the CLP, Grant was an alderman at the Darwin City Council between 1972 and 1974.
He was also the Administrator of Norfolk Island between 2003 and 2007.
Grant was a proud and fierce advocate for the Northern Territory, particularly on issues such as euthanasia, and Territory rights.
Among the long list of achievements throughout his career, Grant was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2011 Australia Day honours.
I thank Grant for his service and dedication to making the Northern Territory a better place.
