The Cook Labor Government has provided nearly $2 million to upgrade social housing in the Kimberley, with a grant awarded to registered community housing provider (CHP) Foundation Housing Limited (FHL) to refurbish 55 units in Broome.
FHL has been awarded the $1.91 million grant to deliver major refurbishment works at Broome lodge, located in Djugun.
Broome lodge comprises 55 one-bedroom, one-bathroom units owned and managed by FHL under a Community Housing Agreement.
The refurbishment project will include kitchen and bathroom upgrades, roof painting, fencing improvements, landscaping, internal and external painting, stair safety upgrades, and car park resurfacing and line marking.
Accessibility enhancements will also be delivered to improve safety and mobility for residents with a disability or limited mobility.
FHL is one of Western Australia's largest community housing providers, managing around 2,000 homes and supporting approximately 3,500 tenants across Perth, Broome, and the Pilbara.
Refurbishment works are scheduled to commence shortly.
The grant is part of the State Government's record $6.3 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures since 2021.
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey
"This investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to improving the quality and accessibility of social housing and ensuring these homes are available to tenants for longer.
"Upgrading these 55 units at Broome lodge will provide safer, more comfortable homes for residents and is part of our record $6.3 billion housing and homelessness investment since 2021."
As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D'Anna:
