Four North Queensland community groups are receiving funding for events and programs from Townsville City Council after their applications were considered in this week's Ordinary Council meeting.
Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc has been awarded $3,479.10 in grant funding for their 2024-25 School Holiday Program, offering hands-on educational experiences on improving local ecosystems and backyards or gardens.
Down Syndrome Queensland was awarded $3,840 for their Step Up for Down Syndrome Townsville Day at Riverway 13 October 2024 as well as $642.37 of in-kind support which included venue-hire fee waivers.
The North Queensland Conservation Council will celebrate 50 years of environmental activism with Stories of the Wild North: Personal histories of campaigns, courage and community thanks to the approval of $4,306.27 in grant funding.
Hockey Queensland will host about 500 people for their 2024 Hockey Queensland U16 Boys Indoor State Championships from18 to 20 October 2024 after receiving $8,908.50 in grant funding.
Mayor Troy Thompson said Council was proud to back the valuable community organisations for the delivery of enriching programs and events.
"Townsville has hundreds of terrific local organisations that contribute to the fabric of our society, whether it be through advocacy, support or health of our community," Cr Thompson said.
"We're proud to support these organisations in doing what they do best to engage and give back to our community."
