- $91,348 in Road Safety Commission and RAC community event grants awarded
- 22 events to be held across WA during National Road Safety Week 2023

Road Safety Minister Paul Papalia today awarded over $90,000 in grants to local governments and community groups for the hosting of events during National Road Safety Week 2023.
The Road Safety Commission and RAC partnered to fund grants of up to $5,000, which will see 22 community road safety events held across Western Australia between 14 to 21 May.
National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative that sees all Australian States and Territories collaborate to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways in which it can be reduced. Each event promotes one of the seven daily themes of the Week which focus on how to make every journey safe.
The City of Wanneroo will host a series of free 'Buckle up for National Road Safety Week' workshops with Kid Safe WA helping parents and caregivers choose and use the right child car seats. In Perth's south, Manning Primary School will host a 'Ride to School Breakfast' launching newly mapped safe walking and riding routes for students.
More than half of the event grants were awarded to organisations in regional WA from the Great Southern to the Pilbara. The Shire of Kent will share road safety resources with locals and tourists alike as they enjoy the Pingrup Silo Art display while the Ngarliyarndu Bindirri Aboriginal Corporation will educate the community of Roebourne on safe driving.
With fatigue known as the silent killer on WA roads, a number of events are designed to highlight the dangers of driving tired including the Quairading Outdoor Movie Night, the Gascoyne Driver Reviver and the Wongan-Ballidu 'Drive to Stay Alive Community Jive'.
Access Plus WA Deaf Inc will host an Auslan Road Safety Pilot program at their Wembley offices to enable the deaf and hard of hearing community access to road safety information.
