The City of Greater Bendigo's ongoing work to transition to a circular economy has been recognised through the 2022 Premier's Sustainability Awards announced last night in Melbourne.
The City of Greater Bendigo was one of 12 award winners taking out the Industry Leader Award for circular economy innovation.
City of Greater Bendigo Director of Presentation and Assets Brian Westley said he was delighted to see the City's efforts to create a circular economy recognised through the awards.
"The City has been working for some time now to identify, develop and implement a number of circular economy and resource management solutions to handle, reprocess and recirculate end-of-life material resources," Mr Westley said.
"Our Circular Greater Bendigo project draws upon the global rise of the circular economy concept to shift how Greater Bendigo consumes resources and how materials at the end of their life are valued and cycled back into new products.
"It also reduces negative environmental impacts and provides new economic development opportunities for businesses in the region.
"The award is recognition of our efforts to date and I congratulate all staff from across the organisation who are playing a role in the initiative."
This year's Premier's Sustainability Awards were delivered collaboratively by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government, along with the Banksia Foundation and Keep Australia Beautiful - Victoria.
All winners will now be up for the National Banksia Foundation Awards, and the Community Leader winners for the Keep Australia Beautiful national awards program.
