The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is continuing to work with communities in western NSW impacted by floods while responding to calls in Greater Sydney after strong winds brought down trees and damaged buildings.
In the last 24 hours to 3pm, Sydney metropolitan area has received over 270 storm related requests for assistance, with at least 150 requests involving trees being blown over due to high winds and the rest roof damage.
NSW SES continues ongoing flood operations in Central western NSW. The Lachlan River at Condobolin peaked on Sunday at a near record 7.59 metres, just below the predicted 7.8 metres.
International support from New Zealand is providing assistance in the incident control centre at Parkes while flood rescue operators from Singapore are assisting in Deniliquin and to communities along the Lachlan River.
NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Sean Kearns said there were currently 102 warnings across the state including 12 emergency warnings related to flooding.
"More than 1,000 damage assessments have been undertaken in Forbes, where more than half have experienced some level of damage.
"We have NSW SES crews continuing to assist communities downstream of floodwaters on the Lachlan River at Euabalong and the Edward River at Deniliquin with sandbagging, resupply and evacuation assistance.
In Greater Sydney and the Illawarra, wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres an hour caused trees to be uprooted, roofs to be blown off buildings and powerlines to come down.
"With winds are as strong as they are today we are asking residents to move their cars from beneath trees and to secure items in their yards and businesses which could become airborne, including trampolines or sheet metal" Assistant Commissioner Kearns said.
"Residents can prepare for winds by removing tree branches over buildings, and ensuring roofing is in good order".
