Greenmount Waste Facility to Re-open to Public June 4

Greenmount's Waste Management Facility will re-open to the public from Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Toowoomba Regional Council Waste Services Councillor, Cr Melissa Taylor, said the rehabilitation of the site's former landfill had been completed, allowing Council to finalise construction of the temporary waste transfer station.

"The Joe Wagner Group recently completed landfill rehabilitation works, involving excavating and consolidating decades of previously buried waste at the site into a managed cell," Cr Taylor said.

"Using material sourced from the site, the new cell was constructed with a phytocap layer to isolate the deposited waste from the surrounding environment and has been planted with natural bush flora. This was the first major landfill rehabilitation of this type in our Region.

"This has resulted in the closure of the landfill element of the waste facility. Constructing the temporary waste transfer station at Greenmount aligns with Council's Waste Strategy 2021 and Waste Infrastructure Plan 2020, which aim to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill and offer improved recycling opportunities.
