Greenpeace

Cali, Colombia, Greenpeace sent a final message to delegates on the urgency of taking decisive action to protect our planet's biodiversity with two powerful words in Spanish: "It's now!" From inside the negotiations venue, Greenpeace called on the COP16 presidency and governments in Cali to fulfill their commitments on 1.8 x 7.40 metre letters with colourful images of Colombian biodiversity, on the last official day of talks.

Estefanía González, Deputy Campaigns Director, Greenpeace Andino said: "The environmental crisis demands that we leave COP16 with a clear and concrete plan to fulfill the commitments of COP15. Nature cannot wait: we need ambitious results and real commitments. Closing the nature finance gap is essential for those at the frontlines of nature protection to implement real and effective protection measures to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity. Ecosystems provide a vital safety net against natural disasters and climate change. We are just hours away from the end of negotiations. We need the COP16 presidency to take an ambitious stance and make their presence felt in the negotiating room: the time is now".
