The Australian Greens created a pathway for the Government's childcare reforms bill to be passed today, by successfully moving in the Senate to bring the bill to a vote in what may be the final sitting before the election.
As stated by Greens early childhood education spokesperson, Senator Steph Hodgins-May:
"Today the Greens secured a major win for families and children across the country.
"In a sign that Greens pressure works, Labor has been forced to back its own bill to remove the childcare subsidy activity test for three days per week.
"This reform is thanks to Greens, early childhood education advocates and families saying we need to get rid of the activity test and pushing Labor to act.
"This bill is just a first step in fixing our broken childcare system, which is too important to leave to a potential Coalition government.
"The Greens will continue to fight for universal, free early childhood education and care. With the Greens in the balance of power, we'll fight to keep Dutton out of government and push Labor to get it done."
