- First innovation challenge for the GreenTech Hub will focus on energy storage

The Cook Government's focus towards net zero emissions has taken a major step forward with its multimillion-dollar new GreenTech Hub turning its attention towards developing innovative energy storage solutions.
Innovation and the Digital Economy Minister Stephen Dawson announced the hub's first innovation challenge would be to explore advanced energy storage systems with a goal to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and therefore decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
The GreenTech Hub is part of the $40 million Lower Carbon Grants Program (LCG) - Gorgon Fund with a joint funding agreement between the Cook Government and the Chevron-operated Gorgon Joint Venture.
As part of the LCG program, the hub is a $4 million initiative over four years and aims to build State-wide capability and capacity in green technologies and services.
Earlier this year, Curtin University was announced as the operator of the GreenTech Hub.
Curtin University is managing the connection and collaboration between industry and academic experts by hosting innovation challenges and accelerator programs.
Each hub innovation challenge will be supported by a dedicated consortium of industry partners focusing on identifying and deploying new technologies to help resolve the identified problem, or challenge.
In this first challenge, exploring energy storage technologies will provide communities in the future with new clean and stable solutions. This includes investigating long-duration and scalable technologies to enhance reliability and efficiency for both urban and remote applications.
The new hub joins the existing State-funded innovation hubs which focus on data science, cybersecurity, creative technologies and life sciences.
