Greenwood Scouts, Community Celebrate New Home Reality

  • Local scouts and community groups can now enjoy a much-improved home
  • Renovations to two halls provide better facilities for Greenwood community groups
  • A Cook Labor Government $600,000 election commitment delivered

Works to substantially improve the Greenwood Scout Hall and nearby Calectasia Hall are now complete thanks to funding from the Cook Labor Government.

The project was made possible through an agreement with the City of Joondalup for a $600,000 contribution towards the major upgrade of the facilities primarily used by the Goollelal Greenwood Scout Group and the Greenwood Toy Library.

The project involved major renovation of the Greenwood Scout Hall and some minor works carried out at Calectasia Hall, both located on the same site, fulfilling a 2021 Labor Government election commitment.

The improvement works included better storage, upgraded lighting, improved heating and cooling in the main hall and lounge area, upgrades to fencing and increasing the size of the outdoor undercover area.

The facility will support Scouts WA to grow and engage more young people in adventurous, fun, challenging and inclusive programs, developing skills for life.

As stated by Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley:

"Groups, such as Scouts, make an important contribution to our community being strong and connected, especially in the lives of young Western Australians.

"Providing better facilities for local groups to meet and to recreate in is really important and I am proud of our Cook Labor Government's commitment in this space.

"It is fantastic to see these works completed at the Greenwood Scout Hall and Calectasia Hall, with yet another election commitment delivered.

"I'm sure the Goollelal Greenwood Scout Group and the Greenwood Toy Library will enjoy the much-improved buildings for years to come.

"I would particularly like to acknowledge my colleague Jessica Stojkovski MLA, the Member for Kingsley, for her advocacy and ongoing support of this project and her Greenwood community."

Comments attributed to Kingsley MLA Jessica Stojkovski:

"As a former Scout, I know the value of having a reliable and welcoming space for young people to call their own and learn essential life skills.

"These upgrades will not only improve the amenity of these valued community halls but will help local groups, including the Goollelal Greenwood Scout Group and the Greenwood Toy Library, grow into the future."
