Police have charged a 54-year-old Woree man following the alleged assault of a 31-year-old man at Cairns City last night, August 31.
It will be alleged at approximately 11.45pm, the 31-year-old Parramatta Park man was outside a restaurant along the Esplanade when he was assaulted and pushed by the 54-year-old, causing him to fall to the ground.
Upon arrival, emergency services located the 31-year-old unconscious with serious head wounds.
He was taken to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition.
The 54-year-old man allegedly left the scene on a push bike, and was located by police nearby a short time later.
He has been charged with one count each of assaults occasioning bodily harm and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, and is due to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court today, September 1.
Investigations are continuing.
