Grievous Bodily Harm Charge At Townsville

Police have charged a 34-year-old man in relation to an alleged serious assault in Townsville on September 14.

It will be alleged at approximately 9.55pm, an altercation occurred at a sporting venue between two men who were not known to each other.

A 38-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was transported to Townsville University Hospital.

The man was later found deceased just after 9.30am on September 19 at an address in Ball Bay (near Mackay).

A 34-year-old Kelso man was taken into custody at the scene at the time of the alleged assault and charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

He is due to reappear before Townsville Magistrates Court on November 13.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.

In particular, police are seeking vision of three people on scooters in vicinity of Sir Leslie Thiess Drive between 6.30pm and 7pm, and anyone present on the southern side car park along Pride Street between 9.30pm and 10.15pm who may have witnessed the assault.

As part of the ongoing investigation police will await the results of a post mortem to determine the man's cause of death.
