Griffith's $12M Affordable Housing Project, Griffin Green is set to get underway and will see 20 townhouses and approximately 42 housing lots built around Dave Taylor Park.
Works commenced earlier this year with the removal of the mound located within Dave Taylor Park.
With the Construction Certificate now approved for Stage One Civil works, work crews are scheduled to be on site from 5 July 2021, to commence the extension of Garton Place to Snaith Place.
Council will be carrying out these works which will include earthworks, road extension including kerb and guttering and the installation of stormwater, potable water and sewer infrastructure. The works will take approximately three months to complete and will be carried out between the hours of 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday, with only minor disruptions in the existing road network occurring temporarily.
The works are being carried out to facilitate the development of 20 townhouses adjacent to Walla Avenue associated with the Griffin Green Affordable Housing Project. The 20 townhouses are being delivered under a separate Development Application to be determined by the Regional Planning Panel.
Council has also called for Expressions of Interest to construct the 20 townhouses on behalf of Argyle Housing, with EOIs closing Friday 23 July.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi said this is the first major stage in delivering affordable housing as part of the Griffin Green project.
"Last year we secured $6M in funding from the Federal Government, with Council and Argyle Housing each contributing $3M to fund this project which will see a massive boost for affordable housing in Griffith," said Councillor John Dal Broi.
"Council and Argyle Housing have committed to ensuring existing residents in the Pioneer Estate will have new playground equipment, a basketball court, and a large open green space within Dave Taylor Park with consultation sessions being held over the last couple of months. A new Community Hub will also be constructed by Argyle Housing.
"We recognise the importance of an inclusive space and look forward to continuing to work with the community to deliver a space residents – old and new - can be proud of," he said.
Argyle Housing CEO, Wendy Middleton said Argyle Housing have been working closely with Council in consulting with the community, and looks forward to continuing a strong and positive relationship with the residents in Pioneer.
Council is asking residents and road users to take care while the civil works are underway.
