Griffith City Council is inviting residents to help celebrate Local Government Week 2024.
Held from 29 July – 4 August 2024, Local Government Week is designed to showcase the work councils do in their local communities, including the wide variety of services they provide.
This year, Griffith City Council is using the week to say thank you to the selfless volunteers who support Council and to highlight some of the services and facilities the community enjoys.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the week was always a good opportunity to let the community know more about what Council does.
"Many people aren't fully aware of the wide range of services Council provides. There's so much more beyond just roads, rates, and rubbish. Recent conversations have shown that our community values the efforts of our Council and its staff," Councillor Curran said.
"I invite residents to get involved in the activities we have planned throughout the week."
Council will hold a Thank You Morning Tea for Council Volunteers on Tuesday 30 July 2024 to honour the unwavering commitment of our facility volunteers and numerous Committee members who generously give their time.
Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre (GRALC) will offer free come and try classes for Griffith residents:
- Monday - 9.30am HIIT & 5.30pm Pump
- Tuesday – 6am Spin & 1.05pm Spin n' Core
- Wednesday – 10.30am Gentle Stretch & 1.05pm HIIT Express
- Thursday – 1.05pm Weight and Core & 5.30pm Core Crusher
- Friday – 6am TFC & 9.30am Body Balance
- Saturday – 8am Aqua Aerobics
On Wednesday 31 July, the Griffin Green Affordable Housing, project will be officially opened. This has been a joint initiative between Argyle Housing and Griffith City Council and will provide key workers such as healthcare workers, hospitality staff, and other essential service providers with affordable housing.
A special Local Government Week Council Cafe will be held on Thursday 1 August 2024 at Griffith Central and on Friday 2 August 2024, Council will be hosting Kurrajong, who will be visiting the Council Chambers.
