Griffith Council Unveils New Parking Notification Card

The NSW Government announced on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, that reforms will be made to the ticketless parking fine system, ensuring drivers receive on-the-spot notifications for parking fines when safe to do so.

As a result, Griffith City Council has commenced issuing Parking Fine Notification Cards in situations where it is practical and safe to do so. These cards will inform offenders that a parking violation has occurred.

Council transitioned from the 'docket system' to the more efficient and sustainable Print and Post system three years ago. However, Revenue NSW identified several issues with the docket system process process that required attention:

  • Recipients of parking fines were often confused by the 'shopper docket' style notices, which provided limited information and lacked consistency.
  • Parking fines left on windscreens were sometimes removed by unknown parties, leaving recipients unaware of their fines until they received a reminder notice, reducing their time to respond and to budget accordingly.
  • Councils incurred significant administration costs related to mailing notices.

The Print and Post system offers several advantages for both Council and the community:

  • Recipients receive consistent information on standardised fines, enabling informed decisions and more time to respond.
  • Council reduces time and costs in managing fines, improving service efficiency.
  • Incidents of confrontation and aggression towards Parking Compliance Officers are reduced.
