Griffith Mayor Urges Leaders to Aid in Ending Homelessness

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran, is calling on business and community leaders to join him in raising funds and awareness for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Griffith's Sleepout for Change will see Mayor Curran brave the cold and bunker down at the Griffith Regional Sports Centre, in support of Mission Australia's Mayor's Sleepout initiative.

The event will take place on Saturday, 15 June 2024, with Mayor Curran challenging other leaders in Griffith to bring their sleeping bags or swags and join him.

"I am urging other community leaders to join me and experience a small part of what it's like to sleep rough on a cold winter's night," said Councillor Curran.

"This event is about raising awareness of the homelessness crisis. On any given night, countless men, women, and children are forced to sleep in cars or 'couch surf' due to their circumstances.

"While participating in the Mission Australia Sleepout cannot fully replicate the experiences of those living without a home, it is a step towards understanding their plight and raising necessary funds to provide vital support services."

Griffith's Sleepout for Change will be held at the Griffith Regional Sports Centre on 15 June 2024. Those interested in participating or making a donation can contact Council on 1300 176 077 or visit: https://bit.ly/3WFI95x
