Work is nearing completion on the much anticipated Griffith Pump Track, with main track now finalised and open for users.
The $445,000 project is funded under the Stronger Country Communities Fund and will be situated on Olympic Street, between the Skate Park and the Griffith Community Centre, and has been designed by internationally renowned company World Trail Pty Ltd.
The asphalt pump track features rollers, doubles, dragonbacks, roller berms and multiple transitions.
Urban Strategic Design & Major Projects Manager, Peter Badenhorst said that while the track has been completed, there are still works scheduled.
"The fences around the pump track have been removed to enable the community to start using the facility," said Mr Badenhorst.
"However there is still work to be done including the amenities such as the shelter with a BBQ, tables and benches, a bicycle service station and a water bottle fill station, which is scheduled for the coming weeks.
"We are asking users to please take care while at the track as it is still an active construction site for the next few weeks and work will be conducted at various times – please keep this in mind when using the track and be mindful that there may be workers and machinery onsite," he added.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said it's great to see work on the pump track coming to a close.
"World Trail is one of the largest and most experienced companies in the world and Council is fortunate to be working with them on the Pump Track," said Councillor Curran.
"The community has gotten behind this project from the beginning, and it will be great to see everyone enjoying the area moving forward.
"I've seen that the track is already getting good use and while that is great to see, please do take care around the active construction site," he added.
The pump track is centrally located within a walking distance from surrounding neighbourhoods and the CBD. The Olympic Street area has been identified as a Youth Precinct and incorporates and links a number of youth sporting and active recreational facilities in a single area including the PCYC Service, Griffith Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Skate Park and the recently completed Community Centre.
