Did you know that at Stonnington Libraries, you can borrow seeds to take home and plant in your own garden?
Residents have the opportunity to grow a beautiful garden – and their knowledge – when they join up as a member of the library. And it's so easy to join. Just visit any of our libraries to sign up and become a seed library member. You can borrow up to three packets of seeds each month to plant and grow at home.
There's plenty of seed varieties on offer to inspire your garden including vegetables and herbs, heirloom, Indigenous and native. New winter varieties are also available including sugar snap peas, pumpkin, Florence fennel and more.
Since the seed libraries were introduced in autumn 2021, more than:
- 1291 residents have signed up as members
- 8525 packets of seeds have been borrowed and
- 3452 packets of seed have been donated back to the libraries to share with the community and enhance the local environment (as at 1 July 2024). And they are still growing strong.
Now is the time for garden lovers, beginners, green thumbs and seasoned gardeners to pop in to our libraries, become a member and seed what it's all about!
