Bass Coast Shire Council will get to work on the Guy Road Shared Pathway project this month.
This important pathway link will see a 6.1 kilometre shared pathway constructed between Corinella and the Bass Valley Primary School, via Tenby Point, creating connectivity between Bass Coast communities and active recreation opportunity for residents, school children and visitors. The path will run from Jamieson Street in Corinella, along Guy Road via Tenby Point and then unused road reserve to Corinella Road and Bass Valley Primary School.
This $2.8 million project is jointly funded by $1.4 million from the Victorian State Government's Growing Suburbs Fund and $1.4 million from Council's Capital Works Program.
Work will start on Monday, 16 August and is expected to be complete by March 2022, subject to contractor availability, favourable weather and COVID-19 restrictions.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said that this exciting project was identified as one of Council's top three pathways in its Aspirational Pathway Program.
"This path will provide options for residents and visitors looking to experience the Waterline area through walking, running and cycling," Cr Tessari said.
"It is brilliant news for the community that this project has now been funded and is moving ahead.
"This is another wonderful advocacy win for our community," Cr Tessari concluded.
The project will include the construction of about 725 metres of new concrete footpath in Corinella, as well as a smaller section in Tenby Point. The pathway will also include around 750 metres of boardwalk and about 4.7 kilometres of gravel pathway.
This project will require the clearance of some vegetation, for which vegetation offsets have been secured.
Appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be implemented onsite during these works, including some access restrictions such as single traffic lane closures as required. Emergency vehicle access to properties will be maintained at all times.
The contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions to road users, residents and businesses during these works and Council appreciates your patience during these times.
