The new Permanent Representative of Haiti to the Organization of American States (OAS), Myrtha Désulmé, today presented her credentials to the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, during a ceremony that took place at the Organization's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Desulmé reaffirmed her country´s "commitment to working alongside the OAS to continue to defend democratic principles, to work for respect for human rights, to promote security and peace, and to support sustainable development initiatives that guarantee a more stable and prosperous future for our peoples." In addition, she said "the OAS has a key role to play in strengthening hemispheric solidarity and in finding lasting solutions to the crises that affect us. It is with this conviction that I stand at your disposal to work with you to build a future based on stability, prosperity and mutual respect."
For his part, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, said "The OAS is fully committed to Haiti. Under Haiti´s leadership, we´re doing everything we can to assist with the policies your government has outlined. We are here to support you, and I have instructed the General Secretariat to continue providing any assistance your government needs to advance peacebuilding initiatives, enhance security, and return to democratic norms." "Our commitment to Haiti is strong and unwavering. We will not shy away from our responsibilities, and many countries in the hemisphere are ready and eager to continue enhancing our assistance to Haiti", he concluded.
The ceremony took place at the place at the Organization's headquarters in Washington, D.C. and was attended by diplomats accredited to the hemispheric Organization.
