The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will conduct a hazard reduction burn at Tapitallee Nature Reserve in Shoalhaven tomorrow, Thursday 22 October.
The 13-hectare burn aims to reduce fuel loads and safeguard the area north of Nowra, including Bangalee Scout Camp, from damage this fire season.
An area between the Bangalee Scout Camp access road, the caravan park access road and Koloona Drive has been selected for the hazard reduction burn.
There may be smoke impacts tomorrow, and NPWS recommends that elderly residents and those with respiratory conditions remain indoors and close windows during the operation.
Smoke hazard signs will be in place on nearby roads, and motorists are advised to exercise caution.
The NPWS hazard reduction program for 2020 will be focussed on undertaking essential burns in areas close to neighbourhoods and important assets and protecting significant habitat to ensure ongoing recovery of the State's wildlife.
All burns across NSW will continue to be coordinated with the Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community, including from smoke, are assessed at a regional level.
