The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing a hazard reduction burn in Goobang National Park north east of Parkes, 30 April.
The burn is scheduled to start around midday and continue over the weekend subject to weather conditions.
NPWS Central West Area Manager, Fiona Buchana, said: "The burn will take place in the Deep Creek area east of the Renshaw McGirr Way and may generate a large amount of smoke.
"This is likely to be visible in the surrounding area and towns including Parkes but residents should not be concerned.
"The aim of the burn is to reduce fuel loads in the Deep Creek area to increase protection against future wildfires.
"Undertaking this burn now, when conditions are favourable, will help manage the potential risk of bushfire to communities and the environment before next summer.
"We are taking advantage of suitable weather conditions ahead of predicted rain early next week. Additional burns are planned in Goobang National Park later in Autumn and Winter subject to weather conditions."
NPWS firefighters will undertake these operations with assistance from local RFS crews.
During these burns some sections of the national park will be closed so people should check NPWS Alerts for up to date information before visiting.
All burns across NSW will continue to be coordinated with the Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community, including from smoke, are assessed at a regional level.
