The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is planning a hazard reduction burn south of the Bermagui River in the Murrah Flora Reserves west of Bermagui from Wednesday 12 April, weather permitting.
The burn will treat approximately 43 hectares of bushland, reducing the fuel load in the Reserves and improving protection for properties and infrastructure in Bermagui.
River Road will be closed for the duration of the burn.
Tracks and trails within the Flora Reserves will be reopened after the operation, when the area is assessed as safe.
Smoke may be visible in the Flora Reserves and from surrounding areas, including to residents in the Black Marlin Drive and Nutleys Creek Road areas and the township of Bermagui.
Motorists should use caution when driving on Wallaga Lake Road and the Cobargo Bermagui Road where smoke may be visible.
People vulnerable to smoke are encouraged to remain indoors and keep their doors and windows closed to reduce exposure.
Hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect parks, neighbours and communities from future bushfires.
This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by National Parks and Wildlife Service across New South Wales each year, many with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
All burns around the state will continue being coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
