Townsville City Council and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services will conduct a hazard reduction burn in Rollingstone on Wednesday (25 August).
The burn, which aims to manage vegetation on 3.3 hectares of land behind Rollingstone State School, will be conducted from 4pm and continue into the early evening.
Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said Council took bushfire mitigation seriously.
"We know just how quickly things can heat up here in North Queensland, so it always pays to be prepared by managing high fuel loads on parcels of land around the city," Cr Soars said
"This controlled burn at Rollingstone will help reduce the high fuel loads behind the Rollingstone State School, to help protect the school and keep the community safe during the bushfire season.
"We ask residents to take care, follow any directions from staff and to take appropriate precautions if they have a medical condition which can be exacerbated by smoke."
