The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is carrying out a large hazard reduction burn in Guy Fawkes River National Park adjoining Marengo over 3 days from 12 July, weather permitting.
The burn will be about 5,000 hectares and 15 km long and may be visible from the Waterfall Way and Armidale Road.
The burn, comprising ground and aerial ignition aims to introduce low intensity fire create a large area of reduced fuels on the western edge of private property and Guy Fawkes River National Park between the Guy Fawkes River and the escarpment.
Smoke may be visible in the localities of Ebor and Guyra.
All NPWS hazard reduction burns are coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
